In addition to his role as rabbi of Community Synagogue of Monsey, Rav Tendler has gained international renown as an expert on Jewish medical ethics. The Rabbi Isaac and Bella Tendler Professor of Jewish Medical Ethics and Professor of Biology at Yeshiva College, Rabbi Tendler is respected throughout the scientific domain as a scholar who has made important contributions to the field of biology, and is a leading authority in the field of bioethics, particularly in the area of medical ethics  and halachaChairman of the bioethical commission of the Rabbinical Council of America and the Medical Ethics Task Force of UJA-Federation of Greater New York, Rabbi Tendler has also authored several books relating to Jewish medical ethics.

On the occasion of Rabbi Tendler’s 50th anniversary as our rabbi, Community Synagogue will be assuming the sponsorship of the Annual Conference of the Yeshiva University Student Medical Ethics Society. A widely recognized forum for the discussion of Jewish medical values, the conference attracts leading scholars in the realm of halacha and medical ethics. Beginning with the next event, which is scheduled for December 10, 2017, the conference will bear the name of Rabbi Tendler.

The names of all donors and their levels of support will be listed in a book of tribute which will be presented to Rav Tendler at the dinner in his honor on November 5.
